Meet the Doctors


Anthony F. Alario, D.V.M.

Dr. Anthony F. Alario began his professional career studying animal nutrition at the Ohio State University.  He graduated from the University of Milano, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1984.  Upon graduation, he practiced equine sports medicine at Aqueduct and Belmont racetracks.  In 1987, he became a founding partner in a leading veterinary practice.  Dr. Alario was instrumental in growing the practice to 16 practitioners at 6 locations.  After 9/11, Dr. Alario, a longtime local resident, grew tired of his commute and joined his longtime friend and associate, Dr. Greenfield, at the Syosset Animal Hospital. 

Dr. Alario's special practice interests are nutrition, arthritis, dermatitis, and allergies in dogs and cats, and general medicine for birds, reptiles, and pocket pets.  He is an active member of the AVMA, AAHA, NYSVMA, LIVMA, and the AAAV.  In 2001, Dr. Alario received the ASPCA Outstanding Veterinarian Award.

His personal interests include equestrian activities, gardening, boating, travel, and of course, cheering for the New York Yankees.


Harlan B. Gothelf, D.V.M.

Dr. Gothelf graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.  He also attended undergraduate school at Tufts where he earned a B.S. in Mathematics in 1994.  Upon graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Gothelf moved back to practice on Long Island where he grew up.  Dr. Gothelf's special interests include endocrinology, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and minimally invasive surgery/procedures (endoscopy, laparoscopy, ultrasound). He is a member of the national, state and local Veterinary Medical Associations.  Dr. Gothelf enjoys meeting with the clients, caring for their pets, and nurturing the human-animal bond.


Jeremy L. Cohen, D.V.M.

Dr. Jeremy Cohen graduated from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002.  After completing a prestegious medicine/surgery internship at Angell Memorial in Boston, he is very happy to be back in his hometown of Syosset on Long Island practicing quality medicine at Syosset Animal Hospital.  Dr. Cohen has a special veterinary interest in emergency medicine and diagnostic imaging.  Outside of the hospital, his interests are many, including: music and live bands (drumming & guitar), sports (tennis, weightlifting, biking), philosophy, movie appreciation and a special love for Siberian Huskies.
