Innovative healing at Syosset Animal Hospital
Platelet-rich plasma uses your pet’s own blood mechanisms to encourage a targeted healing response in injured tissues. This innovative technique can be applied to a wide variety of tendon, ligament and joint procedures, facilitating a faster and more effective recovery.
How it Works
The platelet-rich plasma is retrieved from your pet’s blood supply. The drawn blood is separated into its red blood cell, white blood cell, plasma and platelet components by a Syosset lab technician. The platelet portion is then concentrated and reintroduced into your pet at the location of need. This solution helps reduce inflammation and promote healing. And, because it is composed of your pet’s own cells, there is no risk of physical rejection. This procedure is minimally invasive and is performed under sedation only.
